Machinery Directive revision: impacts correctly estimated?

The European Commission Inception Impact Assessment on the Revision of the Machinery Directive does not clearly define the main driver for the initiative. In particular, whether digitalisation is the main driver or one of many, requires clarification.
In the preliminary assessment, a number of the impacts have been projected without presenting evidence and in some case have been double-counted. However, the IIA correctly avoids signalling a clear preference for any of the policy options.
