2002: Impact Assessment introduced by the European Commission

 

2006: Commission approach is evaluated

 

2007: Commission steps up its approach to Evaluation of policies and legislation

 

2009: Commission Impact Assessment system is significantly altered and improved

 

2009: European Court of Auditors judges Commission Impact Assessments to be useful and worth the effort

 

2012: European Parliament establishes the Directorate for ‘Impact Assessment and European Added Value’

 

2012: Commission launches the Regulatory Fitness and Performance Programme – REFIT

 

2015: Better Regulation Guidelines adopted: Impact Assessment and Evaluation are fully integrated in the Policy Cycle; REFIT is transformed into a stakeholder-driven programme to improve existing EU legislation
